Aluminum extrusion process is a forming process by applying pressure to an aluminum billet (billet) that has been heated to the limit temperature, extruding aluminum through a mold with shaped holes to receive products with the shape of the design. Extrusion products have got big length. The product samples have been designed in terms of shape, size and color before performing the extrusion process.
Aluminum extrusion process details as bellow
Heat the billet to a temperature of about 450-500°C for the billet reaches the required temperature
To move the billet to the billet holder department
The effect of pressure on the billet by the push rod.
The billet is deformation by under the pressure, shorter and larger size until it touch into the side of the container and pressed to the mold. To increase the life of the mold, liquid nitrogen or inert gas can be used to cool the mold and avoid oxidation of the mold.
Under the effect of heat and pressure, solid aluminum is extruded through shaped holes in the mold.
When the product comes out of the extruder, A meter is required to check the temperature of the product coming out of the mold to know the temperature of the pressing process (it called the real technology temperature) This temperature is changed to depending on the billet material
Table of billet temperature on the hot pressing
| Billet | Temperature °C |
| Lead alloy | 90-120 |
| Magnesium Alloy | 340-430 |
| Aluminum alloy | 340-510 |
| Copper and copper alloy | 650-1100 |
| Titanium Alloy | 870-1040 |
| Nickel Alloy | 1100-1260 |
| Steel | 1100-1260 |
